I have a real stupid question here. Has anyone had difficulties when you have wanted to take a test drive in a G8? I recently went to my local dealer, who by the way I have bought my last 6 vehicles from, and was told that if I wanted to drive the G8 (not any of the first 888) I had to fill out the paperwork like I was going to buy it before I could test drive it. Needless to say I was a little peeved!! Oh to let everyone know I am not a 20 something year old I am a 48 year old with 3 kids and a grand child, so I am not out just to take it out for a "joy ride" and "let's see how much this little baby will do" in a short amount of time. I am taking it out to see if I like the way it rides and how it handles, etc, you know, like any other vehicle.
I am not sure if this is the "new managements" thing at the dealer or a GM thing. If this is a "new management" thing they have just lost a loyal customer.
So... my question is; has anyone else on this Forum had that experience?
Thanks for any input...
TC...

I have an '04 Grand Prix with a very creaky surround to the sunroof...all I wanted to see was the interior and the salesman came out with a key and a plate...we took out and when we got on the highway he told me to 'punch-it' - and MAN! We took off! It was a GT model and I'm waiting for the G8-GXP - but I didn't have to fill out paperwork or anything. Your dealership should apologize for their poor customer service to you as you've been a loyal customer.

I test drove a GP GXP about a month ago. Driver's license was all I needed. The guy was trying to get me to buy it and run the numbers anyway to try to con me into a new GP (my 2004 GP has a nasty water leak...the passenger side has been wet for 6 weeks...not good!). If I can't get this water leak figured out soon, I'll be seriously checking out the G8 and will be anxious to drive one. In the meantime I need to stay far away from a dealer!! :D

Well...I'll stay away from the dealer until the week after next when I take the Solstice in for it's recall work! LOL!!!

I had the check in my hand before I even heard the radio! I test drove mine just before I signed. You will love this car: smooth:), quick:D, comfortable:cool:. Yeah they were strict, but I'm glad that my car wasn't torn up. Next year, it will be easy to get in one.

That is not good. They should be bending over backwards for you if you have bought 6 vehicles from them! I mean, they should have been all over you trying to push you in the car! I am a 25 year old guy that had had hell getting into test drives until i got my last two cars. I have had 2 Subaru WRX's in the past couple of years. When I started pulling up to dealerships in them, the sales guys would literally push me into cars!

You should contact the sales manager, and see what the heck happened.

These Cars Are Still Rare, Even Though 1000s Are In The Pipeline. My Local Pontiac Dealer Has Just Returned From School To Learn About And How To Sell The Car. Quite A Disclosure In Itself!! I Think That You Should Find Another Dealer If You Feel Abused. Car Salesmen/dealers Are A Breed Of There Own.

my dealer started with the shpeel. yeah because of the car we need to ride along. I had my 6yr old along. So obviously wasnt gonna get to crazy. So when the salesman hoped in i said you know I take offense to your needing to ride along. And bottom line you will not sell the car this way. He's like I know its just a policy but tell ya what drive me around the block drop me off and its yours.. Well it went well cause purchase will be completed Tues... :)

Are you saying that the salesman got off and you test drove the vehicle without him in it? That would be somewhat odd for someone can drive away not to return in the vehicle.

The salesman who dealt with me sold a Hummer a couple weeks ago to someone who had a fake identity!!!! The guy was picked up in Vegas and the Hummer was auction off!!!

Few years ago I took a Jaguar X-type by myself for a drive. Surprised the heck out of me to be able to do that. I was even an out-of-towner. It is not normal, a dealer's insurance agent would have a fit. That beiong said, a couple years back GM had a deal going where they wanted you to take the car home overnight, keep it for 24 hours, figuring it would grow on you.

Shooooot...... I would love to take it home for 24 hours..... now that is great pre-incentive to make the purchase.

I guess I'm a youngin'(30 y/o), and wore blue jeans and a Spurs t-shirt. I didn't have any problems test driving a G8. Even though it was a Sunday, the salesman didn't have any problems letting me sit in the car, and he was like "wanna take her around the block?" I said I don't mind;). It has nice power, good handling, really nice lines.

FWIW, I'm jaded when it comes to power. My previous vehicle was an '04 Lightning with over 400 hp, and 500 ft. lb.
