I am wondering if anyone has exprienced vibration problems coming through the steering wheel? I`ve had two G8`s one 6 and a GT.The 6 needed new control arms,tires and the 4 rotors turned at purchase. The GT has had the rotors turned, and control arms replaced at purchase. The dealer can not
( or will not ) try anything else until GM finds the problem and cure. Please reply if you have concoured this problem.

I have exactly the same issue with my G8 V6... I've had it for about 3 months and noticed the issue first at high speeds. First did a tire balance, which didn't fix it. Next did a road force balance, which also didn't help. Finally they claim it was a known issue with the front strut bearing plates, because of the memory steer that they noticed. (Leans to right after right turn and vice versa). They replaced those, and STILL didn't work. Lastly they replaced the bearings themselves and that worked...kinda. I have a slight vibration in my steering wheel right around 57 mph. Its driving me nuts... I gotta find a solution to this also...

Had a steering wheel shimmy at about 70, like a typical front tire out of balance would feel. Long story short, 3 trips to two dealers for this, basically said I was nuts, unable to duplicate, won't drive the car over 60, blah blah blah. Brought it to a tire place to check the balance, and they said the very first tire they put on the balancer was washed out (out of round). I went back to the dealer armed with this info, and they told me ALL FOUR TIRES were out of round, and one of the rims as well. Everything was replaced under warranty, and the car drives like it's brand new...which it actually is (2,300 miles). Hopefully the car just had defective rolling stock from the factory, shipping from OZ, sitting too long or whatever, but if the problem reappears obviously there are more issues. Sure hope not because I absolutely love this car more every day, BS notwithstanding...

i have an 09 gt and ive only experienced a little vibration around 35 but i think thats the afm cuz ne faster or slower it goes away.. if you havent followed up on the recall for the 09 g8 gt it might be that because its a front suspension issue

Suspension recall?

OK now I'm curious. Shortly after I got the car I did have some recall work done. The brake lights were sometimes staying on while I wasn't braking, and the traction control would disable itself and stay off even when I pressed the "slab button." They said those issues were related to the recall, and also re-programmed the transmission due to issues with sluggish shifting people were having (I hadn't noticed, and it didn't seem any different after they fixed it). No mention of any suspension recalls. Do you have any info on this? Thanks!

On Nov.12th, my dealer notified that GM will be replacing all the control arms on my GT. I have only 2500 miles since purchasing it on June 1st. My forearms would be numb after 1hr. of driving at highway speeds. The dealer also notified me (since several friend`s also own these cars) that only customers with documented complaints from time of purchase would be having this done. I do not know if this is the fix but, this is what GM thinks is the problem.

Fang It, are you saying this is the 2nd time they are replacing your control arms?! Scary if that's the case. My vibration quickly returned after the tire & rim swap, so it would appear as if the dealer and I have some fun times ahead.

I stopped buying used cars a few years ago because I got sick of this type of BS...

Lane Slabs, What I was saying is that I`ve owned 2 G8`s this year. A 6cyl first that I drove for three days,the dealer had for 1 month after, fixing vibrations.. Tires, brakes and control arms( front only). They couldn`t stop water pouring in the sunroof and damaged the body`s finish so bad "the General" made them buy it back from me. I then purchased a GT with no sunroof and had the brakes done at the time of purchase. I had the tires checked, fine shape. I `ve been waiting since thenfor the fix.

Thanks for the clarification Fang It. I called the dealer this morning to let them know the problem has returned. The service advisor was skeptical of the control arms being an issue (as his head tech inspected the suspension thoroughly), but said whatever it is they will fix it. The car is going back in sometime next week, will keep you all posted.

Vibration update

Brought the car back to the dealer today. They said all 4 tires were slightly out of balance, that perhaps the new tires had "taken a set." I never heard of this before but anyway, they re-balanced the tires, turned the rotors, and loosened and re-torqued the suspension bolts and U-joints. The car seems perfect now, though I have just driven it about 30 or so miles home from the dealer. Crossing my fingers, really hoping I can just enjoy my car now.

Another vibration update

Drove the car another 1,000 miles since the last balance. The vibration returned but wasn't terrrible. Seemed worse for the first few miles, then would get somewhat better as the tires warmed up. Brought the car in today for the free GM oil change (hope you all got that gift in the mail recently) and had them rebalance the tires. They said 3 were off slightly, 1/4-1/2 ounce each, and they rebalanced them. I noted that I've had many cars in my day and never heard of tires having to be balanced 3 times (counting the initial mounting when they were new) over such a short period (1,500 miles at most). This time they said that they need to use a special lube to mount the low-profile tires (I have the 19" Bridgestones that come with the sport package), and that sometimes this allows the tires to rotate slightly on the rim, throwing them off balance. Called my buddy who is a certified BMW tech to ask if this was BS, and he said that it was actually not unheard of, and to avoid hard stops or launches for the first couple days after getting tires mounted. Also suggested that if the problem persists to try another kind of tire. Once again, the car seems perfect, but I wonder how long before I'm dealing with this crap again. Anyone have any thoughts or similar experiences?

Shaking

I have an '08 G8 and I recently had front and back brakes put on. They told me my roters were fine, but anytime I have to break when I'm going around 60, my steering wheel shakes. Any ideas???
