I am just wondering what some of the guys that have a g8 already are getting for MPG. I know we don't buys these cars for there fuel economy and right now my wife drive a Trailblazer SS which drinks gas like its Kool-Aid and get about 15mpg average .I am probably going to buy a G8 for the wifey since i can get one fully loaded for 30k with the military discount.

Step on it!

You will get 20+ per gallon....... better to say it's 23 but it depends. I purchase one for my wife and only driven it one day to check the MPG.... but on a vehicle with 361, it's tough not to step on it for the hell of it...

You are thinking of the 3.6 liter base. This is the fuel economy straight from the pontiac website.

EPA estimates MPG mileage
3.6L engine (automatic): 17/25 (city/highway mpg)
6.0 L engine (automatic): 15/24 (city/highway mpg)

Decent Mileage not a problem for me.

I picked my GT up in CT. on May 10th and have done nothing to it yet.
I just made a trip from North Carolina home to Connecticut.
I started the trip home with 2163 miles on it.
I filled up at Flying J in Fort Chiswell, VA with 87 octane.
I had already done 110 miles so the car was warmed up.

Running tire pressure was 39 front and 41 rear.
Ambient temperature during the drive was 70 - 74 degrees,
with low humidity and sunny skies.
A.C. was set to 72 degrees and on auto.
Put the car in drive and got onto I-81 N.

I pulled into the Flying J above Winchester, Va. 246.5 miles later.
DIC showed 68.1 avg. speed, 27.3 M.P.G. and 329 mile range remaining.
Tank took 8.792 gallons which calculates to 28.03 M.P.G.
I was very gentle on the throttle for this drive to see what I could
get for max mileage. Other than getting onto and off of the highway
I maintained my speed between 60 and 75 M.P.H.

Got back onto the highway and stopped 276.3 miles later at the
Valero station in Port Jervis, NY just off I-84 E.
DIC showed 67.8 avg. speed, 25.0 M.P.G. and 271 mile range remaining.
Tank took 10.802 gallons which calculates to 25.57 M.P.G.
This tank I drove normally, which means more throttle, but nothing crazy.

I am quite happy with the mileage I am getting.
Most of my driving is highway. My city driving is really mostly rural roads;
not real stop and go type city. The first couple of tanks of gas were a
variety of driving and I averaged between 19.5 and 22 so I am happy with
that also.

i commute in my GT everyday. 1/3 of my commute is reg driving, 2/3 highway. get about 18-19 avg mpg. i drive slightly more aggresive than normal(new jersey normal) 75-80 on the highway. but with this car its quite hard not to rip it off the line. when i take a longer trip on mainly highway, i get over 20 mpg. like 23-25. since i broke the car in , i dont see it higher than 18 mpg avg. too powerful and fun.

i gotta say i love that 6th gear, 80 mph at 2000 rpms.

This is encouraging. I don't have mine yet, the buy out is still in process. Not sure how long that takes....but it is currently day 58. I have my eye on a red GT with the sports package. The tires will have to be changed when it gets cold here in NV, but that is a minor detail. I'm excited, now I just want to get the car.

I have had my G8 GT for two months. I average 23.4 MPG. I drive the speed limit and generally keep my speed constant to keep my average up. If I was younger and had something to prove to everybody and always stomping on it I could see getting 15 MPG. Sometimes its nice to feel the power the car has though. I generally drive highway. No city driving.

I am looking at 16/17 mpg with mixed driving. About 1/3 of my commute is street and 2/3. On the freeway I average 75-80; gotta love that 6th gear. I alternate weeks carpooling, so I have yet to use an entire tank doing my commute. On the weekends I run around town doing errands, which is mostly street. However, where my GT excels is on the freeway. Next month we're doing a road trip down PCH/Highway 1 and looking forward to seeing how she does.

Gr8t MPG

Hey gang!

I work at a Pontiac dealership and I get to drive these badboys everyday. And, as you can imagine, a frequent challenge is the the mpgs. "15 mpg in the city" I say, "is only an avg!!" And to prove the point, I took a G8 on a test drive around my dealership and covered about 9 miles in surface street traffic. As I was pulling into the dealership, the Avg. Mpg was at 17.2 and climbing.

I drove like an adult, most of the time, and I used cruise on short stretches. But it was definitely city driving!!

I want to take one out for a longer test drive, but the bosses don't quite see the necessity. I'll get back to you with an update.

The 6.0 V8 of the G8 GT will give you somewhere between 18-19 MPG in typical mixed (city/hwy) driving. I have an '08 with only 4500 Miles on it, and the absolute BEST that I've seen on an all highway road trip at a steady 70 MPH was 23 MPG. I have never seen the 24 MPG EPA number that was printed on the sticker, but this figure is derived from a theoretical method that Uncle Sam uses. When it's all city driving (i.e. stop and go), then you can also get into the mid-teens (17 MPG).

My 2009 G8 gets me about 23 MPG in the highway. The Fuel Management System (8 to 4 cylinders working) does the trick. I average 60 mph and try to keep it steady in cruise. When I need passing power all cylinder kick in and there I go!!

2009 Mpg

I drive a mix of city and Hwy. I have 3000 miles on the rig now. I run Royal Purple 5/30 with Linkite additive in the engine and fuel. I run 87 octane Chevron fuel. I have also installed a Rotofab CAI. I see the north side of 100MPH alot and I average 20.5 by the DIC calculations. I should whip out the iphone and do the math properly. I will report on that later.

My commute includes stop and go in the DC traffic. With 6400 miles on the car I am getting 22+ commuting with AC. First road trip with some city was 26.7 MPG. Awesome mileage for a large car with awesome power. First car I have owned since my 1968 SS 396 Camaro and my 1969 Cougar 428 Cobra Jet (desmogged) that I don't wish for more power. BTW, the G8 is quicker than either.
