G8 GT Interest Rates?

14403 Views 23 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  The Stig
I currently have a 2006 Pontiac G6 GTP Coupe. I got it July 28th, 2006 on a 4 year lease. I love the car but I like the G8 a lot more for obvious V8 reasons! I'm hoping to get one at the end of this summer. Right now the interest rate for a 48 month loan is 6.9%, which is insane. Does anyone know if the interest rates will be coming down any time soon? Even if the rates come down what can I do about the last 2 years of my lease? I've heard of swapalease.com but is there anything that GM might do? Help a fellow Pontiac fan get a G8!

Hey, stig. Welcome from 2 hours or so north.
I have been told on some of the forums that GM themselves will allow you to get out of a lease early if leasing or purchasing new GM product. It is apparently a little known program and probably is not even spelled out (or maybe the opposite is highlighted) in the lease contract. Skip the salesperson and talk directly to the finance manager about this option. GM lease rates and apr rates on purchase for G8 are not great, but if you might purchase consider a credit union for a better rate.
Thanks for your response. I've heard of lease pull aheads of 3 or 6 months. But will they take my car 2 years early?
I bought mine. Ended up getting my loan from my insurance company, state farm(NJ). $30000 for 60 months at 5.3% i think. The dealer wanted to match that rate too. so rates arent that bad right now, as long as credit is good.
Last Friday I bought mine and got 5.11%. They offered 5.50%, but I called my credit union, and they matched it. I traded in a Charger for it, which made me eligible for something called a "Conquest" rebate of $1000.00. Not too shabby.
I'm not so worried about the interest rate any more, but I can't get it if I can't get rid of my G6. I still have 2 years left on my lease. Will GM take it if I buy a G8.
I'm sure that you can get out of that lease 2 years early. You will take a hit on it though(as expected). I'm in the same boat as you, as I may be trading my car in about 3 years early.

A month ago I had the experience of my life. I got to drive a G8 GT around a race track. RWD is nice for going around turns. This car is very simple to drive. You press the left pedal when you want to slow down. You turn the big circular thing to make it go around corners. And you press the pedal on the right when you want it to make more noise!
Hey Tron, how much of a hit?
They'll take what you owe on the car and give you a trade in value, just like a regular trade deal. The first couple of years you'll end up upside down, but they end up putting it in the package deal. Not sure exactly how much that's gonna be, because that varies from car to car and dealer to dealer.

Thanks Mika. This means that it might be possible.
Do you think they will come out with 0% for 60 months by the end of this summer? That's when I might be buying.

That's what I'm waiting for, truth be told.

Hi Mika. The dealers that are on this forum keep saying "Why aren't these things flying off my lot?". So that either means that G8's aren't selling well or the sales people are just being sales people. If they don't sell well GM might come out with 0%. I need everything I can get. I keep telling myself that I can afford a G8. I hope I'm not lying to myself!
Hey everybody that's just viewing this, come join the forum and talk to us! It only takes 5 seconds to join and it's anonymous.
If someone offered me a fair trade-in on my lease(you guys know what I mean) and 0% for 60 months, I'd be on a white G8 GT like a hobo on a sandwich.

Mika
Any dealers that are watching, the two of us are waiting for the same thing!
Make mine red.

Just finished a 0/60 back in October and was hoping GMAC would once again offer (as they did a while back when I did not need a new car) automatic approval at exact same terms as just finished loan. But something tells me we won't see 0/60 anytime soon on a G8. Anything under 5 plus cash back is hoped for. I hope they extend the loyalty bonus past the 21st.
Is there a Gas Guzzler tax on the G8 GT?

No gas guzzler tax on the G8 GT, but there should be a tax on the GXP version:(.
