Cold Air. VaraRam or K&N?

New to the forum. This is my first post. I bought a G8 GT as a DD on Wedneday. I have enjoyed it so far.

Looking at a cold air kit. I saw a few but two stood out to me.
Obviously K&N is an option. $291.99

But then I saw a kit from VaraRam that looks like an interesting concept. $369.99

Both items claim "power gains". Will either improve MPG over the other? has anyone used one or the other and can share some opinions?

Thanks, Martin

I have the Vararam. I choseit because it draws air frm in front of the radiator. the only thing is I think i'm going to wrap it with header taope por put a heatr sheild under it. not sure which yet i need to do some investigating. I can't offer any scentific evidence here but it seems ot me i want air form the grill area not the engine compartment. The whole "ram Air" effect appeals to me although I c wouildn't take this as gospel.
The one hting I will say for sure is, neither one os going to be a mirical bolt on. I monitored mt intake air twemp before and after the upgrade and i will say the intake air drop alllllllot quicker with the vraram as opposed to the stock set up. It has less twists and turns some logic woiuld dictate it would have lessf low resistance. As you can see I can't type or spell worth a shit but i did do allot of reading before i dropped the 400.00 on the Vararam butthat ight not mean anything. They all have the best set up right....
The vararam looks cooler and the concept is better imo so I gussit really comes down to choice because like ai said neither one are significant over the stock one. Unless you factor in sound and coolness. lol

I have the vararam on the GXP and the K&N on my 2003 1500 5.3L Silverado. I believe the performance gains on both were similar but have not dyno'd either. I paid the extra on the K&N for the polished stainless so it dressed up the engine nicer, the vararam didn't offer that option.

2009.5 G8 GXP Liquid Red, Onyx Interior, Sunroof, 6-Speed Manual, High Flows Zero Drone Performance Exhaust, Vararam cold air intake, BMR Sway Bars Front and Rear, Vector Motorsports ported intake manifold, MGW short throw shifter, SLP Firehawk Spoiler,
Vector Motorsports Optimized ECM calibration, Upgraded speakers all around (11)
