GXP...how rare?

I contacted a dealer the other day via the internet and was interested in a GXP mainly due to the extra hp and the manual over the GT and he stated this about them.

"The G8 GXP is a rare one. We will not even take supplier discount on that vehicle, also you can buy it for MSRP, we keep the incentives or $5000 over sticker, thats how rare they are. Thanks for your inquiry."

Personally I'm not sure if they are worth the $40K+.

How is the GT's using the driver shift control/sport mode. Is there a lag when shifting? I test drove an auto 350Z and it had a huge lag between shifts.

I saw the same thing in Northern VA. That dealer wanted about $4400 over list, but was willing to honor the incentives. My experience is that these cars are available for a bit under list, plus Pontiac discounts. The market is tight for new cars and most dealers will deal. If yours will not, contact another local Pontiac dealer and they will "find" the car that is marked-up and work a trade.

Pay to play. Right - this is America.

I got mine at $3k over sticker and the dealer honored GM $3k rebate/incentive. So essentially, I got mine at sticker. And I was fussy in that it had to be stick and no sunroof.

Dealer - Star Pontiac, Easton PA, recommend it - was buying as many of these as they could from dealers all over. Was one of the few cars that they were moving as fast as they hit the lot. Took me 3 months, no joke, of constant stopping by and emails to get a TEST DRIVE of a manual.

Is it worth it? absofinglutely. The $7to $8k wack over GT plus whatever they take you over sticker is a bit rude, but what other vehicle has a 6 spd manual with effective stopping that seats 4 large men and all their golf clubs and will hit 60 in 5 secs with all those guys and clubs in it???

Answer - 0 for under $80k. And even then, just barely. You really need a fat AMG Benz to equal performance. Maybe an A8L would do it, too.

But, it ain't all paradise. No redline in the tach on a manual. No s#@% - I still am fing slackjaw at the tach not having a redline. And no oil pressure, oil temp, or any tranny temp info whatsoever. Even the GT, I think, gets you an oil pressure reading.

I'm a week into ownership - one happy man. I've got a "few" vehicles to choose from - haven't driven anything except the 'xp since I got it 12 days ago.

And off I go. Gotta hit UPS before they close.

On March 31, I purchased a White Hot GXP, 6 spd manual, in Las Vegas for $37K. The sticker was $41,590. Between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City (I live between them) we saw 16 GXPs. As time goes on and with the bad economy, the deals will probably get better. On March 3rd, no one wanted to deal but by the end of the month the "numbers" were much more favorable. As far as the car goes, it is a hoot to drive!! Fit and finish is great too. I would highly recommend this car to anyone!!

I test drove a red GXP on tues down here in Bradington Fl. Sticker is a touch over 41K. They dropped it to $38090.00 on the spot. Not a stick so I do not want it. Guy called me back last night, said he will get me any color in a stick for the same price. I would not pay sticker let alone a hopped up price. Stick to your guns and do pay a marked up price. - Lance

I've been hunting for a specific color, sunroof, 6MT GXP. All 6 dealers in central(ish) Indiana I've talked to are immediately willing to drop to at least $37000-$37500 with those options and my color choice. I've never paid sticker for a car, ever, no matter how much I wanted it. The last two times I purchased a car I walked out of the Infiniti dealers without a G and ended up with something else.

I've driven the 6MT bright silver GXP and it was a hoot! I didn't stop smiling for at least 4 hours. I've only ever really had Honda's and Acura's in my past and the fit and finish on the GXP is more than adequate. Not equal, but good enough. I too am disturbed at the lack of a redline and missing gauges. I rely on those a fair amount in my TL 6MT.

There is a redline, but unless you remove the rev limiter you will presumably never run the risk of hitting it or going over.

My dad just bought a white hot, sunroof, manual GXP w/ 11miles for 36k and some change. Gates GM in martinsville IN found it for him, and traded it for some denali with a dealer in ATL. The deals are out there. Never pay over sticker.

as far as production numbers i have heard from 3 diffrent dealers that there were only 1000 produced. how true that is i don't know.

I've been hearing that the "official" number of GXPs produced is 1828. People on other boards are stating this as gospel. I would be interested to know if this is accurate and what is the manual tranny to automatic ratio.

I bought one yesterday for 4000 off sticker. I have a sheet that says all the numbers. Got it from a friend.
1829 made..
299 white
334 silver
78 magnetic grey
169 sport red
56 in stryker blue
377 in liquid red
45 in pacific slate
473 in black..

Thats the numbers I have...

For those that are going to "play hardball" and wait until they will sell you this car for what you are willing to pay, be careful. There's always going to be someone out there that will gladly pay sticker to get the GXP and you'll be left with an Impala or similar. There's not many of them and they'll go fast with the prices dropping, and there won't be any more.

I own one and I assure you it is...I was lucky enough to purchase it in April, 3 days before they announced they were killing Pontiac. I got $4000.00 in discounts, 0% financing, and the GMS price. The sticker was $41,000.00 + and I got it for $35,160.00. I love it more every time I drive it. This clown in a BMW 5 series wanted to play one day, but got blown away. Truly a 4 door Corvette. Where else can you get the Corvette LS3 engine w/ 415hp., true exhaust system,love that note every time I punch it, 4 piston Brembo's up front, and 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds for that kind of money. Your right , it's too late..that same dealer has two for sale, one ms, the other auto, and both w/ $7,000.00 markups on sticker...but you can still get 0% for 60 months, and some money off, I'n not sure about the $4,000.00 on the GXP, IF YOU HURRY WHILE THEY LAST!!!

The deals are getting harder. There were 2 MN6 in the DC vicinity over the past 4 weeks at dealers. Both wanted $$ over MSRP. On Friday (2 days ago) I got one to go down from $3900 over MSRP to $500 over MSRP, which was OK for me as I had $1500 in GM card earnings to apply and $4000 in incentives, making the overall deal $5K under MSRP.
