I have a 2008 v6, i get about 21.5 to 22 every week, i check it all the time, i live about 6 blocks from work and about 12 miles of highway driving every other day. on the highway, i'm about 24 to 25, i'm happy, thats what my 03 gp got, as long as i can go 400 miles on a tank, i'm happy. do they offer the flex fuel engine for this car at all???
The 6.0 V8 of the G8 GT will give you somewhere between 18-19 MPG in typical mixed (city/hwy) driving. I have an '08 with only 4500 Miles on it, and the absolute BEST that I've seen on an all highway road trip at a steady 70 MPH was 23 MPG. I have never seen the 24 MPG EPA number that was printed on the sticker, but this figure is derived from a theoretical method that Uncle Sam uses. When it's all city driving (i.e. stop and go), then you can also get into the mid-teens (17 MPG).
My 2009 G8 gets me about 23 MPG in the highway. The Fuel Management System (8 to 4 cylinders working) does the trick. I average 60 mph and try to keep it steady in cruise. When I need passing power all cylinder kick in and there I go!!
I drive a mix of city and Hwy. I have 3000 miles on the rig now. I run Royal Purple 5/30 with Linkite additive in the engine and fuel. I run 87 octane Chevron fuel. I have also installed a Rotofab CAI. I see the north side of 100MPH alot and I average 20.5 by the DIC calculations. I should whip out the iphone and do the math properly. I will report on that later.
My commute includes stop and go in the DC traffic. With 6400 miles on the car I am getting 22+ commuting with AC. First road trip with some city was 26.7 MPG. Awesome mileage for a large car with awesome power. First car I have owned since my 1968 SS 396 Camaro and my 1969 Cougar 428 Cobra Jet (desmogged) that I don't wish for more power. BTW, the G8 is quicker than either.
Just changed to Amzoil 0W - 30 Signature Series motor oil and Low Viscosity transmission fluid. First commuting mileage was 24.4 mpg with stop and go driving and air conditioning. Car is quieter and shifts much more smoothly.
I have a 2009 with 5k miles. I also have a vararam over the radiator cold air intake and the Superchips Cortex tuner. With the OTR I averaged 22.8 MPG on I95 from Charlston, SC in 90+ degree weather. With the 87 octane tune, I averaged 25 MPG from Wilmington, NC. Both were at an average of 71 MPH on hot days with the AC. Once I combined the OTH & Cortex tuning for 87 octane, I averaged 29.4 MPG at 71MPH on a 170 mile trip. My average around town is 19 - 21 MPG which is GREAT!!
Maybe headders in the future?
Just got mine on July 3, had 100 miles on it. Drive about 2.5 hours home and average 26.0 This was cruise set at 73 with one sprint to 95 mph to get rid of a pesky BMW.....
I think my engine finally loosened up, because my gas mileage is going up!
I sat in two traffic jams between the last fill ups, one made me 20 mins late for work and the other about 10, I drive probably 50/50 city highway, and the last calculation at fill up showed over 27 MPG!
My GT is getting 22 MPG with combined city and hwy driving (no cruise control yet in this analysis). I live in SE TX so conditions are mostly flat. I notice fuel management engages at 40+ MPH when at steady speeds (it's a subtle sensation). My engine only has 720 miles on it, so I expect to realize the advertised 24 MPG on road trips with cruise engaged and drivetrain fully broke in. Keep the tires fully charged and air filters clean and it should be good. I will also be converting to Mobil 1 oil at about 1200 miles.
Also. the onboard MPG calculator is accurate and matches my manual calcs.
Don't fret about the mileage, because the joy of driving this car will make all others rides very boring. The 11 speaker stereo is awesome as well and I'm keeping the XM radio going. Also love the On Star vehicle summary email you get once a month (predict oil life, etc.)..it's a geek thing I guess.
we probably have differing fuel maps over here.... different tunes for the crap fuel we use...... my V8 gets on average highway driving around 10 litres per 100 kilometres...... doing both light traffic, and highway, with me driving it sometimes during the week... and i ain't gentle on the throttle, it will average about 12 litres per 100 km....... straight traffic is about 14-16/100
now because i can't be bothered to convert those figures, 3.7 litres per U.S gallon.... and 1.6 kilometres per mile
We run 98 octane fuel here..... but i know your RON ratings are different. Our standard unleaded is 91 RON
Over all, i think they get excellent mileage for what they are!! if you want to have miserly consumption, buy a Hyundai

It's quite a shame they don't have the new SIDI engines over there..... i am sure you have read about them? 280hp and they use a lot less fuel! they are saying 900 kilometres per tank for the new models.... that's about 560 miles per tank

Reputable premium synthetic lubricants (Mobil 1 , Amsoil, Royal Purple) are pre-blended with optimum loading of various additives. Adding after markets to them messes up the balance and likely voids any warranties they offer.
