![]() 2009 Motor Trend Car of the Year: The Contenders are revealed, what's your pick? | Car News Blog at Motor Trend Motor Trend announced the Class of 2009 for their annual Car of the Year, COTY for short and the list includes two Pontiacs, the redesigned 2009 Vibe, as well as the G8. Here is hoping that they are considering both models of G8 as a series, and not just the V6. The entire list: THE CLASS OF 2009: Acura TL Acura TSX Audi A4 BMW 1 Series Dodge Challenger Honda Fit Hyundai Genesis Jaguar XF Lincoln MKS Mazda6 Nissan GT-R Nissan Maxima Pontiac G8 Pontiac Vibe Toyota Corolla Toyota Matrix Volkswagen CC Last edited by chiefpontiac : 10-08-2008 at 11:39 AM. |

Motor Trend's 2009 COTY award will be a tough one this year, with a number of very innovative cars that make great contenders. The G8 has an outside chance to win this one, but I'd say it's certainly not a lock-up. Some of the other candidates that have very good credentials are the Nissan GT-R, Acura TSX, and believe it or not, even the Honda Fit (for all those "green", environmentally conscious folks out there). If I had a vote, it would certainly go to the G8. Go Pontiac!

Yes it is a tough class this year. I would say the faves would include the TL, Maxima, Genesis and MKS. I also like the XF. The Genesis is scoring high marks in independent testing except coming short in handling and large in price.

I am 49 years old and the G8GT brings me back to the days when some of my friends had TRANS AM, Firebirds, Camaros, 442 and my first car was a Pontiac Bonnevile with a 400+ CID engine/rear wheel drive. My G8 lets me relive the rear wheel drive, power and days of my youth coupled with the active fuel management system and modern options this is the biggest bang for your buck. I still do not believe this vehicle has not shot to the top. I am stationed in Korea and believe I have the only G8 GT here and I get stopped all of the time by people asking about the vehicle. Some who know the power but mainly be people who just like the style. When I explain what I paid for it, what I have under the hood many people are amazed. I will tell you that I rotate next year back to the U.S. and can't wait to really drive.

The winner is the Nissan GT-R. I am bummed. After selecting teh CTS last year and with the VE Commodore winning back to back down under I expected at least a better and higher finish for the G8 (apparently didn't make the final cut)

I agree with you on this one chief. I am not going to tell my age, but I owned a 1966 GTO and my father owned a 1964 GTO. Dad is no longer here to concur with me on this, but I think that he would agree that the G8 is by far the the better automobile.
