Pontiac Ponders G8 GXP Coupe
Edmunds Inside Line~Date posted: 03-31-2008

DETROIT — If the car enthusiasts within General Motors prevail, Pontiac will further expand its lineup of rear-wheel-drive performance vehicles to include a 400-plus-horsepower V8-powered G8 coupe. Just don't call it a GTO.

The coupe, which would be based on the Holden Coupe 60 concept the Australian division unveiled recently at the Melbourne auto show, would arrive in showrooms within three years' time.

Since neither the Firebird nor GTO name will likely to be revived for the Pontiac lineup, the G8 coupe will carry... [Read More]

G8 aims to win hearts where GTO broke them
The Australian by Jim Mateja, March 29, 2008

FOOL me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Pontiac G8 GT marks the return of a rear-wheel drive performance sedan at Pontiac after an absence of 20 or so years

Pontiac vowed to revive its performance heritage with the GTO in 2004, but the "Goat" lasted only two model years and notched up just 50,000 sales. The rear-wheel drive, V8-powered coupe, which started life as the Monaro in Australia, came up short in looks and performance.

Now comes the 2008... [Read More]

Pontiac considering G8 GXP coupe
Apr 01, 2008 - 5:22 PM - by dascrow
Pontiac's G8 line-up may just grow to include a high-performance coupe which bears the GXP go-fast moniker shared with the GXP sedan. This would include much of the same hardware, including the 402-horsepower Corvette-sourced V8 and six-speed manual transmission, and give Pontiac the firepower to compete with the Ford Mustang GT500KR and Dodge Challenger SRT8. GM is reported to be having an internal conflict on whether or not to build a G8 coupe, which would be based on the recent Holden Coupe 60 concept car shown off at Australia's Melbourne auto show earlier this year.

If it gets the green light for production, the coupe would be available for sale within three years, according to Inside Line. Main reasons for not building a G8 coupe include the looming stiff CAFE standards, stringent emissions limits and ever increasing gas costs. A GM insider... [Read More]

Pontiac G8 GT Slams BMW 5-Series In Poetic Verse
Mar 31, 2008 - 8:54 AM - by El Calor

From the book of car, whatever that is, comes the latest in the march of ads for the Pontiac G8 GT. We all thought the Spy Hunter commercial was clever, and the Hot Wheels one was slick too. This new web-only commercial turns it up a notch, taking the fight right to the lion's den, comparing the new 2008 Pontiac G8 GT to the BMW 5-Series. Hmm, that's an interesting approach from the brand that never used to drive excitement, especially when they claimed they were, but since it's their ad, do we really have to say who comes out ahead in this one? What we really like about this latest commercial is the poetry slam vs. powerpoint... [Read More]

Pontiac G8 1/4 Mile Run.
Mar 30, 2008 - 12:35 PM - by dascrow

TuneTimePerformance has already started beating the ever-living-crap out of its new Pontiac G8. It was hot-lapped and made a few passes with a few variables changing. Here are some numbers to oogle over:

Stock: 2.03 60ft, 13.39 @ 104.7
Tune: 2.00 60ft, 13.10 @ 107.5
100 shot: 1.96 60ft, 12.49 @ 114 mph

For what it's worth, this was at ATCO Raceway.
Thanks for the tip, Camaro5Gen!
